When key actors in the research and innovation landscape, such as Science Granting Councils, work in isolation, a huge opportunity to leverage resources, skills and expertise is missed. How, then, can Science Granting Councils catalyze and facilitate knowledge exchange and collaborative partnerships with the private sector and among other actors in the innovation landscape? Pharmaceutical Manufacturing in Africa: What are the Knowledge Gaps and Emerging Research Issues?

A Scinnovent Centre study investigated how local pharmaceutical production in Africa can translate to increased access to affordable, high-quality medicines to those who need it the most. The study revealed that to become globally competitive, research on local pharma manufacturing should address three primary areas including; research, innovation and skills development; financing, upgrading, and utilization; and intellectual property rights and technology transfer. The Scinnovent Centre participates in the Annual science week

The National Science week held annually, is organized and hosted by the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation in Kenya (NACOSTI). This year’s event themed ‘the role of science, technology and innovation in the Post- 2015 development agenda’ was held on 11 to 15 May 2015 at the University of Nairobi.
